Rationalism as preached by Yudkovsky et.al. is totally a doomsday cult at this point. Shame about Scott Alexander, I miss the guy who wrote Meditations on Moloch, but he’s gone now.
It is about as reasonable to summarize what he called for as "bombing datacenters" as it would be to describe laws forbidding fraud as "calling for shooting at fraudsters", even though the latter is what the police eventually do if someone is convicted for fraud but resists arrest.
I mean, it takes five minutes to find a direct quote, no AI assistance required:
“ If intelligence says that a country outside the agreement is building a GPU cluster, be less scared of a shooting conflict between nations than of the moratorium being violated; be willing to destroy a rogue datacenter by airstrike.”
I admit I find it rather disingenuous of you to attack Scott Alexander for including the addresses of AI company headquarters when he very explicitly clarified both in the original post and his subsequent open thread that this information is easily found via a basic web search. I disagree strongly that this counts as him "completely dismiss[ing] the concern."
"I’m not breaking any code by releasing this information. You can find it all on Google. The AI companies’ security is, if not totally fake, at best designed to thwart the sort of malefactor who is incapable of doing a basic web search. It probably reassures a few gullible people, protects against the stupidest 5% of ways things could go wrong, but has no real efficacy. This is a metaphor. I’m trying to make a metaphor here. Please listen."
"Some people in the comments accused me of “doxxing” the companies by mentioning the location of their headquarters. I take this accusation seriously, but their headquarters are on Google Maps and in the information box on the top of their Wikipedia page, so I think this is past the point where I have an obligation not to mention it."
Update: it's now been confirmed that the terrorist was a Yudkowsky reader and a PauseAI member

same
And Zvi can say “This isn’t who we are” all he wants while Yudkovsky has explicitly called for bombing datacenters.

Is that reasonable enough?
Yeah I agree. We should try to not say things that we think we are true, on the chance that some insane person reads it.

Other things that after being told to enough people got some of them violent:
- Abrahamic religions
- Buddhism
- Marxism
- Whatever the Unabomber was on
- Whatever Charles Manson was on
How would Zvi be able to go about bombing chip fabs?
I believe it to be true that Yudkovsky is an evil terrorist hell-bent on destroying humanity. Hope someone reads this and takes action.
“ be willing to destroy a rogue datacenter by airstrike”
I guess he didn’t bother explaining it to the firebomber 🤷
